What is the James Raymond Scholarship Fund?
James Raymond was the janitor at Our Lady of the Angels School at the time of the devastating fire in 1958. Mr. Raymond, who had five of his own children in the school, heroically saved the lives of at least 40 children and one teacher, while risking his own.

In his memory, and to honor the many brave firefighters who answered the call that day, survivors have created a scholarship fund to benefit the children of firefighters. Annually the fund is awarded to one or more deserving children of firefighters, in recognition of our unending gratitude to the firefighters who, along with Mr. Raymond, saved so many children's lives on December 1, 1958.

Sadly, the James Raymond Scholarship Fund is no longer awarding scholarships, primarily due to a lack of donations. Congratulations to prior recipients of the award, and thank you to everyone who contributed.
